Our Story

SAJEN means offerings to the ancient gods of the Balinese and Javanese people in Indonesia. In choosing SAJEN as my company name, I am returning to my roots and embracing the gifts of my ancestors. I came to the Bay Area in 2006 after I completed my work assignment with the United Nations/ International Labor Office in Geneva, Switzerland.

In some ways JAMU has found me.  In the winter months of  2007,  my five senses were consumed with JAMU and its elements.  I dreamed about them for days.  I tried to ignore them but they kept coming at me.   In 2008 I decided not to fight JAMU but to embrace it. This ancient art of healing has helped Indonesians for many centuries. I believe JAMU is ready to enter the North American market and I think I am the perfect person to bring it to you.

History

Making JAMU is my family's tradition.  My ancestral grandmothers blended JAMU for their families and communities in small hamlets (Para’an and Gagaran) in the mountainous regions of Central Java, Indonesia within a traveling distance from Borobudur, the Ancient Buddhist Temple.  They used only organic fresh ingredients infused with positive intentions. That same blends and infusions are my offerings to you.

I was born and raised in the JAMU culture, a culture that believes in the power of mother nature and its impact on our well-being.  We continue to use root spices, leaves, barks, fruits, stems, flowers, and flower buds for health, wellness, and beauty inside out.

Mission

My mission is to provide products that are real and honest, using real ingredients: minimally processed, sustainable, and organic whenever possible.

Vision

To create market for traditional beverage that has significant health benefits.  My hope is that creating such markets will inspire indigenous people all around the world to share their wealth of wellness products across the globe.

Responsibility

I believe I have the responsibility to remember and to honor JAMU and other food products created by my ancestors.  I value honesty and fairness when selling my JAMU to my customers  becuase I believe in the power of my roots and the wisdom of our ancestors.
